Jeune journaliste aux dents longues, Louis Commandeur (Daniel Gélin) quitte Lyon et monte à Paris. Walter, rédacteur en chef du quotidien à gros tirage « Paris France » le prend en sympathie et favorise son ascension. Poussé par son ambition, Commandeur n’a de cesse d’occuper le poste de Walter qu’il obtient en se prêtant aux manigances d’un politicien malhonnête II manque y perdre l’amour et l’affection de sa loyale épouse Eva (Danielle Delorme), qui lui revient pourtant, fascinée par sa volonté de réussite.

Louis Commandeur (Daniel Gélin) a young and eager journalist leaves Lyon and moves to Paris. Walter, editor in chief of « Paris France » a daily with a wide circulation takes a liking to him and patronizes his ascent. Pushed along by his ambition Commandeur doesn’t hesitate to take over Walter’s post which he gets by offering himself to the intrigues of a dishonest politician. He barely avoids loosing his loyal wife’s love and affection through this affair. But she comes back to him, fascinated by his will for success.
